Their burrows are marked by holes in the ground the size of a stud earring. You can place a powder in an around these holes, which the termites will then carry in mistaking it for food. This would either be boric acid or something similar which will put an end to their means.

To take care of the wood, you need to be careful so as not to further damage the furniture, the best is to sprinkle the same power on the places where these termites have been. It is always best to take care of the source rather than starting with what you see at hand.
